Traveling Gear
The following links are to products that I use for when I travel, either just close by or far away…
High Sierra A.T. Gear Access 36″ drop-bottom wheeled Duffel
I love my High Sierra Duffel, it can get pretty heavy with all my stuff, but it works great, and it’s wheeled!
Bottom part of Duffel:
In the drop-bottom I put my Gitzo-1325 tripod, Wimberley Head II (with Wimberley Flash Bracket), heavy gloves/mits, hiking boots, rain jacket, power strip/power chargers bag, Walkstool, Pod Pad, and 2 towels. I place one towel on the bottom of everything, and wrap the other around tripod. Inside my hiking boots, are 4 pairs of sock rolled up inside a long single sock - for each boot. Placed around the Wimberley Head II are my gloves & mits. Depending on if I am flying or driving my Wildlife Imaging Beanbag will either go in truck or bottom of duffel. That’s just the bottom part!
Top Part of Duffel:
Let me just say, I wouldn’t be able to go anyway quickly if it weren’t for Eagle Creek Pack-it Folders & Cubes! And a great place to get them from is Changes In Latitude. All pants get folded into a Folder (bet you didn’t see that coming, did you?!); shirts get rolled up and placed into Cubes; socks, underpants & bras get rolled up and placed into Half-Cube or Quarter-Cube, depending on how long the trip is. I use a Quarter-Cube for laundry cleaning products, I use the Laundry Pac, it has everything plus I keep extra Fine Wash packets on hand to replenish the Pac. Packed in with the laundry care kit is a small sewing kit! All of this, plus Toiletry Organizer Case, Camera Cleaning Kit (which is in a Half-Cube!), gets placed into the top part of the duffel.
Now, if it is someplace close by, I grab my camera, vest, tripod, camera bag and get in the truck. In the truck, ready to go is my Eagle Creek Gear Box 30, filled with maps, atlases, guide and identification books.
This packing system makes it a breeze to get out the door with everything that I will need, either for the day or for longer!
I have to give credit where it is due though, Jan Allinder talked about this system and I have to say, I am so glad she did. I love it! Go and check out her site, she gives great advice and although I don’t know her, I admire her spunk and style!
