When Bad Things Go Right
The space shuttle Atlantis was due to land at 6:21am. It takes from my house 2 1/2 hours to get to our spot at Space View Park. That is with all the construction happening on US 27 North in between us and I-4 plus the other normal slow-downs. So, giving that I wanted to be there at least 1/2 hour early to get setup, we left around 3:15am. That will give plenty of time plus extra leeway!
Or so we thought!
We head out, red-eyed from lack of sleep, ok, no sleep, driving down the road when something just doesn’t feel right. Pull into the all-night service station and check the tires. Reach in for the tire pressure gauge. Damn! It’s in the box with the other stuff that was in the old truck. Why didn’t we transfer it to the new truck already… grrrrrr. :( Off to see if they have one inside the store. Yeah!
Let me just say, be careful, don’t buy the piece of junk we bought. To be fair, at the time we didn’t know it was junk. I kept getting different readings (yes, that should have been first clue), but it kept evening out, so I thought I was doing fairly decent. Half hour later we finally were done and on our way. Hmmm, something still doesn’t seem right, but now it’s different. Too late, we can’t stop now! (The next afternoon we found out just what a piece of junk that tire gauge was… tire pressure is 35psi, we had 2 low 40’s after using gauge, 1 mid 40’s and then we had the last tire. A whopping 48! We are lucky that we didn’t have major problem!) We may not be able to stop if there is a tire problem again, but apparently the signal gods were having a laugh at our expense. We must have hit every red light there was in Titusville!
Unfortunately we missed the landing by 3 blocks.
So, how did things turn out right you ask? Well, we got to be there for an absolutely gorgeous sunrise, blazes of oranges, golds and then bright blue sky. We also were graced with meeting some really cool people, who come out to the park every morning to watch the sunrise and then catch some fish!
Yup, I would say that this was a definite bad thing gone right.
