Example of how a page can look, when not using character codes.

This example was located on the Bio page of a professional photographer. Any clue as to what that gobbledygook is supposed to be? We won’t even get into the non-readibility of the colors on his page. That’s for another tip!

 

Using HTML coded characters.

Some browsers do not display certain characters properly, unless the HTML coded character set is used. Instead of what should be there, a jumbled mess is left in its place.

alt text & title attribute

Update: Apr 19, 2007 - I can’t answer for all blog software, but for WordPress, if adding an image to a post, you don’t have a say-so about using alt-text. So, make sure to put the Image Description option to good use - because that is actually the - Title attribute!

Make sure to include alt-text and the title attribute on your images, unless the image is purely ornamental. Some browsers do not acknowledge alt text, but will see the title attribute. But remember that alt text means alternate text, so use something meaningful. Title attribute means just that, it is the title.

I sometimes wonder why I don’t just give up. Give up making plans that is. Every time I plan ahead of time, something happens, yet when I don’t and decide to just do it then things usually go okay.

I got down to Homestead the night before the workshop, checked into the hotel (more on that later), then decided to surprise my family by joining them at the restaurant for my brother-in-law’s parents 50th anniversary.

I know it wasn’t something that I ate at the restaurant because I only grabbed a garlic roll, so it had to of been something I ate on the way down. What I do know is… that I got so sick that I missed the morning workshop on Friday, went to the afternoon session, but left right after an alligator decided to have pelican for dinner. One of the other members of the group was in the right spot and captured gorgeous image of it, I on the other hand learned that I need a longer lens!
